Baby Spa
The saga did not end there.
Judging from the comments, I see that many of you liked Tomie's totally LA visit to the tanning spa. And no, we haven't let LA get to our heads. There is a very good reason for it.
Our little girl had developed jaundice. As we were being discharged, the doctor did notice that she was a bit yellow. And in my rush to get home to get out of the hospital (another loooooong, disgusting story that will be relayed on a want to know basis only.) I thought, ”Meh, she's Asian, of course she's a bit yellow."
The next day at her first pediatrician visit, and a traumatic blood draw, the doctor declared that her bilirubin count was super high and she had to be admitted back into the hospital. In my delirious lack of sleep state, I was thinking "Awwww Billy Rubin. That sounds cute." But it was so bad that he came back in the room with a student doctor for show and tell. "See," he instructs, "I want you to see this baby because she's very seriously jaundiced." Ack! I don't want my little girl to be used as textbook case for something horrible.
The delightful twist on all this was that West LA didn't have any beds available in their Pediatric ward. So they were going to have to check Kaiser Sunset and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (aka CHOLA! hee hee!) After about an hour, they finally found us a bed for her...in...BELLFLOWER!! !@##$%^&* (No offense to you South Bay peeps, but dayamn...that's an hour away.)
We rush straight over there and to make a long story short, I'm gonna skip over my little nervous breakdown. (Again, if you REALLY want to know, just ask.) Oh, I'm also gonna skip the description of the wonderful and hysterical nurse over there at Bellflower. She was truly wonderful. (You might want to ask me about her. Comedic gold.) And while Mama Jo is crying and barely holding it together about how her little girl is in danger and of course, it's ALL my fault...here's what Tomie was doing.

Sigh. But after three days at the baby spa, our little LA diva is back slumming it with us, asking when her next manicure and pedicure is going to be set up. She's doing really well and has gained quite a bit of weight. Still yellow, but then again, still Asian.
